Regular physical activity is another component of migraine management. Low-impact exercises can help reduce stress and promote overall well-being. This may lead to a reduction in migraine frequency and severity. It is best to start slowly and gradually increase the intensity of exercise, as sudden, strenuous activity sometimes triggers a headache.

Stress is a commonly reported trigger. Developing effective stress-management techniques is a practical way to manage migraines. Practices such as deep-breathing exercises can help calm the nervous system and may reduce the likelihood of a stress-induced migraine attack.

How Are They Treated?

When lifestyle changes are not sufficient, medical treatments are available to manage migraines. Acute medications are taken during a migraine attack to stop the symptoms. These can range from over-the-counter pain relievers to prescription drugs specifically designed for migraines. Other acute treatments may include anti-nausea medications.

Preventive medications are taken regularly to reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of migraine attacks. A doctor may recommend preventive treatment if migraines are frequent, long-lasting, or do not respond well to acute treatment. These medications can include certain blood pressure drugs, antidepressants, and anti-seizure medications.
